Fire Retardant Plywood

Fire Retardant plywood is treated with special fire retardant chemicals during the time of manufacturing so that it becomes better at resisting flames. This plywood is also known as FR Grade Plywood. The Indian quality standards for the manufacture of FR grade fire resistant plywood are specified in document IS:5509. Fire Retardant plywood is proven to resist immediate ignition, spreading of flames on the surface and flame penetration.

The addition of fireproofing chemical gives the plywood better-fireproofing qualities such as the Lesser tendency of spark and ignite, slow-burning, having a decreased tendency of the fire to spread over the surface of the plywood. It has low flammability and lesser smoke generation along with higher flame penetration time.

Why Use Fire Retardant Plywood?

Using fire retardant plywood is one of the easiest ways to create a safe building and furniture as well. To make fire retardant ply, chemical preservatives are applied to the wood. The preservative slows down the oxidation process that occurs when wood is burned, causing it to burn more slowly. In an emergency fire situation, fire retardant plywood will provide more time to safely evacuate a building than untreated wood does. This extra time could be the difference between life and death.

Application of Fire Retardant Plywood:

It is commonly used in public places, where the risk of fire has to be reduced such as for making the woodwork in the kitchens of large restaurants, or for the interior woodwork done in public theatres and halls, and the wood used in the railway compartments of our trains. It can also be used in homes and offices, for car interiors, and any other such places where the risk and spread of the fire have to be reduced. The usage of FR grade plywood for making home furniture is quite limited, however, for the discerning customers, for whom cost is not a major concern, and who want to reduce the chances of fires in their homes, FR grade plywood can be a good choice.

Gurjan plywood is one of the best quality plywood in Indian Market. It is made from the wood of the Gurjan trees . The hardwood obtained from these trees is of a good quality and is engineered to produce the Gurjan plywood sheets that we use. These trees grow in South East Asian countries. The Gurjan wood available in India is often imported from other countries such as Burma, Indonesia, Malaysia and is quite expensive.

As a matter of fact, the Indian market is flooded with products that claim to be of made of authentic Gurjan core and panel veneers but suffers when it comes to performance. This is so because the marketers often resort to dubious methods such as, replacing the core and panel layers with other wood species and passing the ply off as purely Gurjan made.

What can be termed as 100% pure Gurjan plywood is that in which the core, panel and face veneer is completely made from Gurjan wood. Even though it is visually very difficult to notice the difference between the original and the feigned, yet opting for products distributed by reputed and authorized brands like us, reduces the risk of being handed a forged product.
